The Unofficial Morrowind Patch (a.k.a.Personally, I use the Morrowind Code Patch and: The factions work very diferently to newer games, you need to do some quests and to have certain skill levels in the favoured skills by the factions to advance in ranks but you can do the different quests in different orders and you don't need to do all quests to advance to the highest ranks.
